I’ve been moving around Texas all my life. From Johnson City to Austin, then Houston, and now to Dallas, I’ve found one thing common across Texas, a decent number of Internet service providers (ISPs).

However, this great availability of ISPs can be a problem for some people as they may not know which one to choose. So, why don’t I briefly tell you about some ISPs that I have used over the years? Let’s start:

Cox

Connection Type: Fiber-backed Cable Internet

Speeds Offered: 100Mbps to 2000Mbps

Contracts and Data Caps: No annual contracts with a generous 1.2TB data cap.

Cox is one of the most affordable options available in the Texas market. Cox mainly offers cable internet, and in selected areas, you may find its fiber-optics infrastructure as well. Besides, Cox offers around 4 million free hotspot zones nationwide with all its internet plans and packages. Also, if you’re looking for internet bundles, Cox can help you with that as you can bundle TV and voice with your Internet.

Another factor that is particularly important to note is that Cox offers Spanish customer support. Almost 28% of people in Texas speak Spanish and to cater to them, Cox servicio al cliente 24 horas; a designated Spanish customer support is available.

AT&T

Connection Type: Fiber, Fiber-DSL, and Fixed Wireless Connections.

Speeds Offered: 300Mbps to 5000Mbps

Contracts and Data Caps: No data caps and annual contracts.

AT&T offers the fast internet in Texas. AT&T’s fiber-backed connections have limited availability in Texas. However, if AT&T is offering its services in your locality, then you should consider this option.

Mostly in rural areas, AT&T offers services via DSL and fixed wireless connections. Also, you may not find the same internet speeds with DSL and fixed wireless connections as fiber-backed connections provide.

Spectrum

Connection Type: Fiber-backed cable Internet, Wireless 5G connectivity.

Speeds Offered: 500Mbps to 1000Mbps (speeds may vary on location)

Contracts and Data Caps: No data caps and annual contracts.

Owing to its availability and affordability, Spectrum Internet is one of the best options for Internet in Texas. The fiber connectivity offered by Spectrum may still be limited to some localities, but you may find its cable connectivity almost everywhere.

Also, Spectrum offers a free internet modem and antivirus tool with all its internet plans. Plus, millions of free Spectrum-out-of-home hotspots around the country may help you stay connected on the go.

Optimum

Connection Type: Cable and Fiber connectivity.

Speeds Offered: 300Mbps to 8000Mbps (speeds may vary on location)

Contracts and Data Caps: No data caps and no annual contract.

Out of all the internet service providers in Texas, I believe Optimum has the most diverse internet plans. However, some of its high-speed internet plans may not be available everywhere. Simply because Optimum does not have a vast fiber-optic infrastructure across Texas.

That being said, the cable internet offered by Optimum may offer ample speeds to support the common online activities of average household internet users.

Bonus Section: How to Choose the Best Internet Service Provider

In this section, I will guide you on some vital factors to consider before choosing any internet service provider.

  • Provides the Best Type of Connection: The internet quality highly depends on its surrounding infrastructure. For instance, fiber internet may not offer gig-speed internet if it is not supported by a solid infrastructure. So, before choosing any internet service provider, always consider different connection infrastructures around your locality.
  • Offers Bundles: If you’re using a phone or TV service with different providers, then it’s better to bundle them with your internet. You can look for an ISP that offers bundled internet plans to save money on other utilities in the long run. Also, most ISPs may offer extra discounts, promotions, or deals to bundled internet users.
  • Ensures Quality Customer Support: Reliable customer support is vital, especially when internet outages have become so frequent. Look for an ISP that offers responsive customer support so whenever you contact them, they resolve your query seamlessly.
